The new standards EN ISO 20345:2022 and EN ISO 20347:2022 have integrated new specific and additional requirements. Some have been removed or have undergone changes.

Here are the new requirements:

SymbolAdditional requirement
PLPuncture resistance (non-metallic insert)
ANAnkle protection
PSPuncture resistance (non-metallic insert)
CRCut resistance
CPartially conductive footwear
SCAbrasion resistance of the toe cap
AAntistatic footwear
SRSlip resistance (on ceramic tile floor with glycerin)
HIHeat insulation of the bottom of the shoe
WPAWater penetration and absorption

Most important and significant features in EN ISO 20345:2022

Slip resistance (SR)

The previous ‘SRC’ slip tests (SRA + SRB) will no longer be used, the legislation provides for the modification of the procedure for carrying out the slip test under different conditions, called ‘SR’ (see table below).

Resistance of the sole to hydrocarbons

This requirement is optional for all protection classes. If present, you are indicated with FO marked.

Ladder grip (LG)

For better adherence to the rungladder, the sole must have a construction that complies with the requirements of the famice provided for by the legislation with a heel height of at least 10 mm, the height of the cramps present in the famice of at least 1.5 mm and a surface of the famice itself, of at least 35 mm.

Puncture resistance (P, PL, PS)

P Puncture resistance with metal insert;
PL Puncture resistance with non-metallic insert (test performed with Ø4.5mm nail);
PS Puncture resistance with non-metallic insert (test performed with Ø3.0 mm nail);

Water penetration

The additional requirement WRU (water-resistant uppers), which describes the water-repellent effect of
the upper of the footwear, has been changed to WPA (Water penetration and absorption). The required upper requirements remain unchanged.

Toe abrasion resistance (SCUFF CAP)

A “Martindale” abrasion test of 8,000 cycles is prepared in order to determine the abrasion of the tip; The bit should not develop holes in its entire thickness.

Slip resistance of the sole

EN ISO 20345:2022 and EN ISO 20347:2022

Marking Symbol (SR)Conditions required by the standard
Slip resistance on ceramic tiles with water + NALS≥ 0,19 shoe inclined towards the heel by 7°
≥ 0,22 shoe inclined towards the tip of the 7°
Slip resistance on ceramic tile with glycerine≥ 0,31 shoe inclined towards the heel by 7°
≥ 0,36 shoe inclined towards the tip of the 7°

In addition to the Basic Requirements there are others, as shown in the table below, each optional requirement indicated in the product marking corresponds to a specific associated risk protection.
